Mike Danton, the former NHL player convicted of conspiracy to commit murder, is expected to play his first game for Saint Mary’s University on Wednesday.

Saint Mary’s Athletic director Steve Sarty confirmed Tuesday that the 29-year-old Danton will suit up for the first time against the Acadia Axemen in Halifax.

In Spring 2004, Danton was arrested and charged with conspiracy to commit murder. In July of that same year, he pled guilty to attempting to hire a hitman, to murder David Frost, his agent.

He was sentenced seven-and-a-half and served more than five years in a United States federal prison before his release in September.
